GirlPower [+ Win a $250 Shoe Voucher]

Feminism, /ˈfeməˌnizəm/, NOUN, The advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.

What or who do you think of when I say ‘unstoppable’?

I can’t help but think of a self-reliant attitude; one of ambition, assertiveness and individualism. The term breaking the glass ceiling comes to mind. Names of history spring left right and centre. The Suffragettes, unstoppably fought for women’s rights in the early 1920’s. Much earlier than that in the 18th century, Mary Wollstonecraft, whose daughter went on to write Frankenstein, raised her voice on gender equality, publicly questioning ideas of female inferiority. Across the ditch, following nearly three decades in slavery, Sojourner Truth was a crusader against racial discrimination and gender inequality. No one could stop her. These and many, many other women began conversation ahead of their time. They devoted themselves to a greater cause and relentlessly raised their voice in lands where voices had to be fought for. Now, being unstoppable isn’t an idea of the past. Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate, risked her life in the quest of education. Using her public forum, Emma Watson unstoppably advocates the need to stand together, to create a united world of feminists, and to take action with here #HeForShe campaign.

The greatest, most inspiring women I know of who are unstoppable, are not to be seen in the newspaper or on a screen near you. They are right here. They are our loving mothers. Our best friends. Our teachers. They are those who go mostly unnoticed, yet to give so much more than they take. They are those who spend their free time helping the needy in the soup kitchen, cleaning up the beach, or raising their children while working two jobs.

It’s time we say thanks to the wonder women next door. It’s time to make those unstoppable women and girls, who so strongly stand on their own two feet, feel even more unstoppable. What better way to do so than by upgrading the pair of shoes they tirelessly run around in every day? A pair of unstoppable feet requires something long-lasting. Comfort and aesthetics are crucial, too. And to pass on this gift of unstoppable feet, I teamed up with Ziera and am giving away a $250 voucher to one lucky Kiwi gal. To find your favourite fit, go to Ziera’s online store and discover Ziera’s new Autumn/Winter 2017 collection. Below, I am wearing the silver Orion shoe.

Most importantly, to enter the giveaway, comment below with the woman you know who is unstoppable. To triple your luck, hop on over to my Instagram and Facebook [if you don’t already, follow me] and do the same. Entries close on March 17, 7pm. What are you waiting for? Let’s all be unstoppable together.

If you’re feeling extra lucky, head over to Ziera Shoes and nominate your favourite girl boss to help her win one of five prizes of $2500 plus 5 (yes, five!) pairs of shoes. You can nominate as many unstoppable women as you like. Each time you nominate, you’ll go into the draw to win one of 100 pairs of shoes, one for you and one for the person you nominate.

  • My mum would be one of the most unstoppable woman in my life. She is amazing and I’m so lucky to have her in my life. She never gives up and is always there for anyone she can help.

  • I am really very blessed to have grown up surrounded by strong, unstoppable, vivacious woman. But I would have to say my mother, PIp Easterbrook. Her ambition is contagious and her resilliance undeniable. I will never have to endure half the experiences she has, and for that I am greatful.

  • My beautiful twin sister Tabitha Hinewai who has faced the adversity of her life with the utmost courage and grace. She is so popular with her nursing team at the hospital she has to spend so much time in for treatment because she remains positive and optimistic even in the hardest and most painful of circumstances. I am immensely proud of her in her compassion, bravery, resilience and the generosity she shares with friends and family.

  • I would love to pass on this voucher to my best friend Julia. She’s always been here for me and for that I am grateful.

  • Beautiful words and photos, Carmen! Love the hearts in the background. I would love to nominate my high school teacher Ms Juliard. She has inspired me to study Medicine.

  • I know it may seem modest but I’d like to nominate my self. Despite all the trauma and daily stresses in my life I always manage to have clothes food rent etc for my 3 children who i love more than anything even though some days I just want to give up and crawl under a rock I still find the strength to keep going. I’m a solo working mother of three. x

She saved hard and purchased her own home by herself near the Air Force base. Then she renovated it! She also volunteered as an ambo for St John. Through all this she has had to have numerous hip operations but has never let it get her down :-)

  • Your words and photos are so amazing, Carmen! My sister, Suzan, is the most unstoppable woman I have ever come across. No matter what hardship she face, she’s always ready to conquer it and become and offer love and kindness on the way.
