Look of The Week – Check Mate
What first came to my mind when I put together this look was an Italian movie which despite having watched it ages ago, stuck with me ever since. It’s called volevo i pantaloni (engl. translation: Good Girls Don’t Wear Trousers) and illustrates the cultural restrictions faced by Sicilian girls during the 1980’s. For Anna, who was told pants are simply not a thing for women, a pair of trousers soon became her symbol for autonomy. Today, I am lucky enough to wear whatever I want. Nevertheless, a good pantsuit still leaves me feeling a little more emancipated than before. This one is by my favourite Christchurch designer duo (which you have already read about here). Its simple cut and bold colours work together perfectly, don’t you think? For a more casual daytime look, I paired it with a silk singlet and woollen cardigan providing that extra tad of comfort and simplicity.
