Look of the Week – Delicate Business
I never fancied the idea of posting daily outfit blogs and telling my readers what to wear or consume. Instead, I prefer to do a regular look of the week which potentially is a bit different to your standard uni / work attire.
carmenhuter.com is all about inspiring to wander and explore, to embrace fashion, to follow a healthy lifestyle. It is a platform for you to get thinking, get doing, get living; without any obligatory rules along the way.
Fashion is truly a big part of my life. It has become so much more than shopping; it much rather is about expressing, about creating, about breaking boundaries and being comfortable at the same time. I can’t wait to share more of this passion of mine with you, and I am looking forward to hearing what you think about these weekly fashion posts.
On a different note, I somehow found myself scrolling through some old e-books last night and got stuck with one of my all-time favourites: The Great Gatsby. I re-read some of the last scenes, and one passage stuck with me all day today. Funnily enough, the green light reminded me of the green bag I am wearing in the following look. I found it in a vintage shop on a tiny island in Indonesia, right towards the end of my first ever backpacking trip. It almost feels likes those words could have come from me that day.
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter–tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning– So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
So, let’s get into it. While my absolute favourite way to style a delicate piece of lace is with a leather jacket or some rough denim, there is no need to go all out to show off a lace bralette. This time, I chose to go down a more classic road pairing it with two absolute staple items: a simple white blouse and black stilettos. A simple pair of the well-fitted navy (yes, black and navy do make a good match; breaking the rules, right?) cigarette trousers gives the look a classic twist without being bland. The bright green leather clutch adds some personality, but could easily be replaced with a black leather satchel if you prefer so.
For a more casual look, swap the blouse for a simple white cotton tee and get comfy with some white sneakers instead of the heels.
PS. A huge Thank You goes to my fabulous friend A. for taking the time to shoot this look with me.
