Look of the Week – Past Perfect
When a label steps into the past and successfully transforms old traditions into what now seems modern and new, that’s when the magic happens. There is a fine line between antiquity and reinvention and Australian brother-sister duo Camilla and Marc are pioneers in keeping traditional structure to their garments while leading modern fashion trends at the same time. It was during the late 17th century that the Jacquard weaving process got introduced to the textile industry. Its remarkable luxe pattern stayed on the fashion horizon ever since. Looking at the skirt featured in this post, you can see why, can’t you?
The fringe, on the other hand, is having a grave and well-deserved fashion moment, too. First used by folks from Mesopotamia from 3000 to 300 B.C.E., then loved by cowboys in the American West, and finally worn by anti-conformist fashion lovers in the 70’s, it is safe to say fringe has been around for quite some time.
For this look of the week, I decided to pair said two iconic fashion staples, while wanting to give them a slightly more modern and edgy feel. The colours contrast each other perfectly, making the skirt the clear standout. The ankle boots naturally tie together the black form the top and the detail from the skirt, while – at a second glance – being quite an eye-catcher themselves. Once again, it’s all in the details.
