Look of the Week – The Art of Fashion
To some it’s an industrial machine designed to trick people into spending exorbitant amounts of money. To others it’s art. Today’s look of the week is inspired by the latter. Wearing this Zimmermann piece, I couldn’t help myself but be stunned by the creative and detail-rich thoughts which would have gone into producing it. Together with a pair of boots by New Zealand’s most celebrated shoe designer Kathryn Wilson, it was a real fashion moment. (This sounds SO cheesy, I know. But, hey, I am just honest…)
Fashion has long been recognised as a form of art. In fact, runways have turned into creative spectacles weaving style together with music, light, architecture, film, dance and photography. One inspires the other, and if you look further than your local high street, you will find clothes with a real story behind them; some would say ‘with a life of their own’. Whatever way you regard to fashion, today I’d like you to take a moment and appreciate the thought, the creative and physical process that goes into this over-used, heavily-connotated term – fashion. Yes, fashion exploits and is being exploited. It even links back to inhumane conditions inside factories far away from their billion dollar headquarters on the other side of the world. For now, however, let’s focus on craftsmanship and creative minds.
What do you think about this look? I loved the flow of the dress, making something delicate look so simple.
