I’ll be honest with you. Writing makes me vulnerable. You know, it’s nothing I ever thought I could do. I knew I was good at more pragmatic things like maths and economics. The art of playing with words, of creating, however, is one, or shall we say was one, foreign to me. Hence, I like to take my time when it comes to publishing articles on here. This fearful sense of novelty combined with the everyday hassles of a traveller’s life saw me writing very rarely these past few months. Don’t get me wrong, inspiration is to be found around every corner, especially when you find yourself gazing across the Mediterranean from the Amalfi Coast or watching the sun become one with the Jordanian desert. What was hard to find, though, was a space without distractions. A few weeks ago I decided to put an end to my self-pronounced writer’s block and started typing. The words kept flowing. The internet in my guesthouse was non-existent, so I hit save and planned to post the articles a few days later. Long story short, my computer rather kept the words for itself and the files were not to be found anymore. You’ll imagine what happened. The alarm bell of my absurd anxiety to write rang sharply. Now, that I’m stuck on an A380, soon to be touching Kiwi soil again, I really don’t feel like there is an excuse for me not to write a few words. The first post is in delighted anticipation of the upcoming New Zealand Fashion Week. Soon to follow are dozens and dozens of travel guides, photo journals and all sorts of other exotic writing endeavours. Wish me luck. x
